Job Description

Property Accountant

Location: Portland, OR (PDX)
Target Salary: $70,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to support financial operations across a portfolio of properties. This role goes beyond transactional accounting and requires a hands-on, investigative approach-reviewing discrepancies, identifying root causes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage cash activity and reconciliations for assigned properties
  • Review, analyze, and post transactions within General Ledger (GL)
  • Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activity (data entry handled by support staff)
  • Evaluate transactions and determine proper accounting treatment, including accrual decisions
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve accounting issues (e.g., misapplied charges, incorrect allocations)
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations and ensure accuracy across systems
  • Work within multiple third-party accounting systems
  • Ensure all financials are completed accurately and deadlines are consistently met

Example Work Scenarios

  • Research and reclassify expenses incorrectly charged to the wrong property or account
  • Analyze prior transactions to identify patterns or additional inaccuracies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to correct financial data and improve processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent property accounting or full-cycle accounting experience will be considered
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and GL processes
  • Experience reviewing (not just entering) AP/AR transactions

Ideal Candidate

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates accountability and ownership of work
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Naturally curious and willing to dig into discrepancies rather than just process transactions
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines
